Big Dogs Attack Unlimited Doubles

By Debbie Willerschiedt

Saturday, November 12th was the highly anticipated day that the Unlimited Doubles Challenge debuted at the All Seasons Sports Tavern. Owners, Lon and Mindy, as well as their great staff, were excited and honored to be hosting this prestigious group of dart giants. Jen and Val kept the food and drinks coming and the liquid courage flooding the room.

Rich Sutton and Curtis Beach, current cup defenders, joined the fray to repeat as champions, but many others came to show off their skills and dethrone them. There were a lot of jabs and joking around about who was tougher, and the testosterone filled the air. Every single team, every player had something to prove.

T-man, of course, had to brag about having the high out round in the last tournament, but alas, it did not earn him the title. There were two teams from up North that made the drive to join darts’ finest. Todd Jordan and Dave Bresee represented The Cactus Moon, while Mike Williams and Kevin Santos represented The Inn.

The bar was full of supporters rooting on their favorite players and the side pots were blowing up! The 3-In-The-Black Pot carried over from the last tournament, but Del Kahuli hit 3-In-The-Black, not once, not twice, but three times just to prove he could take it. Kevin Santos took the High Out Pot with a 122.

Aside from the two bars up North that had sponsors, Willy Walker and Dave Foster were representing Tacoma’s Home Plate. The rest of the teams were not officially sponsored.

The day passed by quickly, and the weaker teams were eliminated, causing the competition to get harder, and the skill level to increase. Then it was finally down to the final four. The tension in the room was thick. Mike Williams and Kevin Santos took 4th place - nothing to shake a stick at.

Current defenders, Rich Sutton and Curtis Beach were knocked out next, ending up with 3rd place. The final match was on! It came down to Washington’s own civil war of darts, the North versus the South, between Todd Jordan and Dave Bresee against Willy Walker and Dave Foster. In a grueling match, it was Todd and Dave of the North with the win, earning the trophy for their sponsoring bar, The Cactus Moon. Congratulations guys!

All in all, everyone had a blast and enjoyed being able to show off their skills. I want to personally thank each and every one of you who showed up and played in the tournament. I had a blast and enjoyed meeting those of you that I did not personally know, but have heard your legendary stories. It was truly an experience to watch some great people with some extraordinary skill get together and have a good honest game of darts.
