Saturday Afternoon Shoot popular at Cactus Moon

By Mary Lamken

Cactus Moon was totally hopping for their monthly Saturday Afternoon dart shoot. Despite the amazing weather, there were 15 teams gathered by 4:00 on Saturday, April 21.

Coordinator, Teresa Hestkind took charge getting everyone started in a timely manner. She even raised the point max for birthday boys Todd Jordan and Lee Branshaw.

In Round one, Summer Buckles and her partner Lucas Fullerton were on fire. Summer took a 156 out! Nice High Ton!

Competition was fierce. Folks rated 5s and 6s were hitting like 16s and 17s. The great weather, had people in great moods, relaxed, and shooting fantastic darts. The 2s and 3s were shooting equally well. That makes for a lot of fun!

Lovebirds, Eric and Heather shot against each other in the tourney. Eric won, knocking Heather and “Dad” out of contention.

A great match to watch had Todd and Lee against Summer and Lucas. They shot well for three games with Summer taking out the first Cricket game. The third game was also Cricket, and it appeared to be a runaway with Summer and Lucas in the lead much of the Game. Todd and Lee closed the Bulls, and the point war began. Lucas and Summer had a hard time closing the bull, so they concentrated on points to keep up. At last, they closed the bull. Todd and Lee were the bounty team, netting Summer and Lucas two free drinks AND the joy of knocking the birthday boys out of the tournament. No hard feelings though, later that night Todd was spotted at another birthday tournament. Who was his partner? Summer!

The rounds continued and there was much laughter and a terrific battle for the top spots In the tournament.

After four rounds Gino and Tim were in the “Drivers Seat”. They waited a couple more rounds before taking on Shon and Ish, who had just battled it out with Terrance and Brett, sending them home in third place.

The final match was hard fought, but in the end Gino and Tim took the match in just two games! Both games went down to the wire. Don’t feel bad Shon and Ish; Tim and Gino shot together in three different tournaments this particular weekend… they won two out of three! Nice going guys.

Cactus’ Coordinator Teresa did an amazing job keeping the action moving at all times. Even when the UFC fight started, the darts were still flying. Staff members, Kane, Athena, and Susan kept the drinks flowing for all. They made sure that everyone was properly hydrated and enjoying their time at Cactus.

This is a monthly tournament and even with the fantastic spring weather, there was a great turn out and a whole lot of fun. Be sure to join the crowd at Cactus next month for their Saturday Afternoon tourney and you will surely have a blast, throw some great darts and leave with a smile.
