Incredible journey puts Jordan among darts’ greatest talent
Who knew that when DARTSLIVE first launched in the State of Washington last August, at the 13th Avenue Pub, that someone would emerge from the Northwest to compete with the World’s top professional dart players just four months later?
TODD JORDAN had a dream and never gave up on it. There were two “Dragon” qualifiers held in Washington over the weekend of August 11 and 12, 2012. Saturday at Wayne’s World and Sunday at the 13th Avenue Pub.
On Saturday, Rich Sutton beat out Chris “Pineapple” Anderson, while Todd edged out John Husman on Sunday to qualify for the U.S. Dragon tournament to be held in Los Angeles at Campus Billiards, Saturday October 20. Thirty-two players in all qualified at similar tournaments across the United States as DARTSLIVE introduced their new dartboards and online entertainment network to the country. Only two among the Top 32 players in the country would receive an all-expenses paid trip, including entry into the WORLD GRAND FINAL event in Hong Kong.
The Dragon event was created in order to introduce a few new participants into this prestigious World Championship Event. Each year there are eight Stages, or events, held throughout the year, where players earn points or full entry into the Finals.
Our own Todd Jordan secured his spot as one of these Top 2 in Los Angeles, and traveled to Hong Kong for the experience of a lifetime. Todd made a real impression in Hong Kong, winning the Bullseye Shoot, and the Round Robin to advance to the top 64. He lost in the first round to the 3rd seed, Royden Lam, who threw two perfect games in that match, one Cricket, and one ’01 game. Royden went on to lose his next match to the eventual winner, and 2012 Champion.
Todd held his own among dart’s most elite players, and had this to say about his performance, “I did not fair so well in Hong Kong. I got beat by a very great player, Royden Lam, ranked number three in the world. Thank you all for your great support, you made my experience twice as fun.”
The 2013 schedule already includes a U.S. event on September 21, 2013. The annual GRAND FINAL event awards a $1,000,000 HK prize, which converts to a little more than $129,000 U.S. Dollars to the champion.
