August Match Madness much like the last
By Ty Hughes
The WWDL’s monthly Match Madness rolls onward!
On Saturday, July 27th, nine teams gathered at Wayne’s World in Burien for a shot at the big ass trophy, and over a $1,000 in cash payouts.
As per usual, the top four, most active players from each of the participating WWDL locations around the Puget Sound, were invited to compete in the growing Match Madness event.
The players enjoy the diverse format, and turn up the heat, working with their appointed teammates to accomplish a momentous victory over their opponents. But first and foremost, it’s a nice chance to get out and play some darts!
Team Interchange; Bruce, Gracie, Kevin, and Mike, took the 3rd Place spot and were paid handsomely for their efforts.
In the final match, 13th Ave Pub’s Todd, Mark, Brandon, and Traci came out of the Loser’s Bracket to play Wayne’s World’s Travis, Anthony, Amber, and Sam, currently in the Driver’s Seat. Two match wins later, 13th Ave Pub was celebrating a big win, and packed their pockets with cash, and the trophy in the car headed back to Lynnwood.
Match Madness continued on August 17th at the MVPub in Kenmore. Nine more teams, several new, including those anxious to defend their positions looked forward to another great day of competition.
Competing in August were the China Dragon, Just Left, Meeker Street, Interchange, 13th Ave, Wayne’s World, MVPub, All Seasons, and R Bar.
R Bar’s John, Rob, George, and Peter reluctantly settled for 3rd Place, while 13th Ave geared up for a rematch with the charging Wayne’s World team.
Under eerily similar circumstances as the July matchup, Wayne’s World’s Larry, Travis, Don, and Amber came out of the Loser’s Bracket to meet up with 13th Ave Pub’s Todd, Mark, Brandon, and Traci, in the final match. Although, this time, there would be different results. Wayne’s World took the first match, 2-3, evening things up.
In the first game of the second and final match, 13th Ave dominated, and finally chalked up the win.
Game 2 was dominated by Wayne’s World. Despite Todd’s multiple 7-counts, Wayne’s World was on fire, and took the win.
In the Rubber game, to determine the winner, Wayne’s World wasted no time putting an end to the 13th Ave Pub’s quest, and took the game, match, set! High fives and hugs ensued at the prospect of returning the Match Madness trophy back to it’s ‘rightful home’.
