Darts flood the Cactus

By Ty Hughes

The infamous Cactus Moon, with all their infamous dart shooters, was the scene for yet another fabulous display of darting excellence on Friday, March 5, 2010.

Course, this would be their monthly Birthday Shoot. Typically running on the first weekend of each month, where Cactus Moon is gracious enough to throw a whopping $600 cash into the pot as long as they pull in at least 16 teams to play!

There was but one single birthday girl on March 5th, and that was our number one girl (and Cactus’ no. 1 girl too); Teresa Hestkind! None other than their own dart coordinator-type person moving one year closer to sheer perfection!

Teresa was not only stoked to have everyone out for her special day, but she was also excited to be leaving for St. Thomas in just a couple weeks with a handful of folks from the Moon! And the Hestkind news didn’t end there either… Jim and Teresa were celebrating their 20th year anniversary on Thursday, March 25th! Way to go you two – quite an achievement indeed. Happy anniversary from the Medallion and friends!

Whether you’ve participated in one dart shoot or a hundred at the Cactus Moon, you know exactly how awesome this place is for darts. With your own “dart room”, specialized service staff making the rounds, and tons of your dart-throwin’ buddies all hangin’ out, the Cactus Moon is a tasty location for you, the dart enthusiast.

You don’t have to explain this to Ken and James, who drive all the way out from Tacoma on a weekly basis to play in Cactus’ dart shoots! They say they prefer the competition here and this is the only place they like to play, go figure! They’re usually in the top finishers too.

While Teresa was handling the charts for the main tourney, Kim was busy running a series of Quick 8’s off to the side for those that found themselves knocked out of the main and still wanted to play.

Those “fantabulous” (as Cindi would say) shooters that made it all the way through the tournament were these talented folks:

4th Place; Matt and Lucas ($30)
3rd Place; Jack and Tami ($80)
2nd Place; Ken and James ($160)
1st Place; Max and Teresa ($240)

So, to commemorate Teresa’s birthday, Max helped her all the way to the finish line. She probably enjoyed a tall, frothy margarita on the beach in St. Thomas with her winnings. She probably toasted Max and all her peeps, before shakin’ the sand out of her suit and tackling a wave of epic proportions!

There is always something dart-related going on up in here. From weekly shoots every Thursday ($400 Gtd. Added), Friday ($600 Added w/16) and Sunday ($400 Gtd. Added), to some themed special events scattered throughout the month. Last month, they presented a Woodstock Shoot full of Tie-dyed shirts and hippie look-alikes. The hippies were awarded with free entry into the tournament, and 1st-3rd place all won cash and a cool Tie-Dyed shirt!

In April, Cactus Moon is hosting a slew of dart shoots, including their monthly $750 Added Trios Shoot on April 9, then a big Player Appreciation Afternoon Shoot on April 17, $1000 Added w/20, 2pm Start. Free entry for all Cactus league players, $5 to all non-Cactus league players – but everyone is welcome!

It’s time again for Cactus Moon’s annual Golf Tournament coming up on May 15. This event has become one of the majors each year and attracts a healthy field of teams. So get signed up now for that!

And come on in for a cold brew, a killer dinner, and some amazing darts anytime! 717 128th Street SW in Everett, WA (425) 745-9855.
